Ahn Bo-hyun's 'Matador' action was an on-set improvisation... The rhythmic flair showcased in Reborn Rich Detective Season 2
The cast of 'ChaebolXHyeongsa2' discusses the rhythmic pace and character growth of the Mexican crime drama.
The exhilarating investigative drama following a third-generation chaebol turned official detective returns for Season 2, now infused with a fresh new palette. The leads of Violent Crimes Team 1—Ahn Bo-hyun, Jung Eun-chae, Kang Sang-jun, and Kim Shin-bi—gathered for a commentary session to mark the series' return, sharing behind-the-scenes stories of the production and the evolution of their characters.
A Fusion of Action and Music Capturing the Rhythms of Mexico
The early part of Season 2 is characterized by an exotic atmosphere set against the backdrop of Mexico. Director Kim Jae-yong revealed that he focused on showcasing the characters' personalities and movements in the opening scene of Episode 1. Notably, since Mexico was chosen as the setting, significant effort was made to weave the unique rhythms of South America into the instruments and music to enhance the sense of realism. This directorial intent serves as a key element in boosting the drama's vitality, creating rhythmic movements that transcend simple action sequences.
The energy on set was equally intense. Despite the sweltering heat of Mexico and the challenges of jet lag, the actors remained dedicated to perfecting their chemistry. Ahn Bo-hyun conveyed a heightened energy on set while demonstrating his character's evolved movements compared to Season 1. In particular, the scene where Ahn's character moves like a matador was an idea born directly on set, cited as a decisive moment that adds flair to the drama.
Character Growth and Teamwork Expressed Through Pepper
The use of props to highlight character details was also noteworthy. Kim Shin-bi mentioned a scene where her character, Gyeong-jin, uses pepper, noting that it helped convey a sense of the character becoming softer and more mature than before. A small prop thus served as a device to suggest character development. The combination of visual and auditory elements, such as costumes and musical instruments, builds a unique atmosphere exclusive to Season 2.
Jung Eun-chae, who plays the leader of Violent Crimes Team 1, shared the challenges and joys of leading the so-called "Puppy Trio"—Ahn Bo-hyun, Kang Sang-jun, and Kim Shin-bi. The actors fostered strong teamwork, making it their top priority to complete filming without any major incidents. With a more powerful character lineup and an expanded setting, Season 2 is expected to deliver a refreshing, "cider-like" investigative experience to viewers.
